From the Yiddish דאָיִקייט meaning hereness
In Summer 2024, seven Klezmorim got together to make an album.
Recorded live in one room, Doikayt's debut album brings together some of the UK’s leading Klezmer musicians, all of whom are dedicated to the preservation and continuation of Eastern-European Jewish instrumental music.
Taking their name from the long history of diasporic Jewish politics and culture: the concept of doikayt states that “wherever we live, that’s our homeland”.
Through their music, community and activism, Doikayt stand in solidarity with Collective Liberation and the struggle for peoples everywhere to live in safety and peace.
Our Jewish values state that we are not free until everyone is free. May the Holy Land be shared by all who value it and every soul upon it be protected and live a life free from hate, fear and trauma.
Let us learn from the stories within our music…that borders are human-made, that culture cross pollinates, and that we are all interconnected and depend on one another for our survival and thrival as a species.
