Bubbemeises is Yiddish, it translates as a grandmother's story, a tall story, an old wives' tale.

Writer and street performer Nick Cassenbaum invites you into the warmth of the Canning Town Schvitz, East London’s last authentic bath house. Amongst the steam and ritual Nick will take you on a journey to find the place he belongs.

Schlaping through summer camps, barber shops and Spurs games. Will he find what he was looking for?

Bubble Schmeisis is full of intimate and personal true stories about identity, home and getting schmeised (washed) by old men. Over the last couple of years the ensemble of Nick, Josh (also of Don Kipper), and I have toured all over the UK, Europe, and even a sold out, site-specific residency in Detroit, bringing laughter, love, mameloshn, and a rich Klezmer soundtrack to every show.

Reviews

The Stage ****

This is a big-hearted, appealing show about tradition and belonging. Cassenbaum is a gregarious performer and this is an accessible, generous, disarming production, undercut with a sense of poignancy that the schvitz and its rituals might one day be forgotten.

Exeunt

It’s by far the funniest thing I have seen in Edinburgh so far, and yet as you’re howling away at another anecdote Bubble Schmeisis is actually saying more about identity and different humans in shared city spaces than many shows that on the outside look Serious with stern faces and capital letters.

Aside from the Jewish theme, Bubble Schmeisis is also beautiful in its depiction of male friendship and shared routines.
